EUROBASKET Summer League
in Salt Lake CIty, Utah

Sevilla DELTA JAMMERS Play2Win wins the inaugural Eurobasket Summer League Championship in Salt Lake City.
July 26, 2008

DELTA JAMMERS Play2Win, playing as Team Sevilla in the inaugural Eurobasket Summer League (ESL) in Salt Lake City, Utah adds another championship to the list of titles won by the organization by defeating Team Munich in the ESL championship game. The 3-day event held concurrently with the NBA's Rocky Mountain Revue featured significant contributions by all 10 players chosen to represent DELTA JAMMERS Play2Win at the Eurobasket event. Among the original 10 players chosen was Kenny Brunner, Delta Jammers Play2Win team leader and floor general, who was unable to participate in the ESL due to a scheduling conflict with the And1 MixTape Tour.

The Championship game was a hard fought game that went down to wire with ESL MVP, Kenneth Walker (pictured above) sealing the victory and the championship with a huge blocked shot in the game's final seconds. Providing lots of energy and making a difference on both ends of the court for the team was Lawrence Trend Blackledge, who came up with numerous blocked and altered shots on defense and some timely baskets.  Shawn Daniels brought his toughness and game savvy making assists, grabbing rebounds and creating court spacing, Jeff McMillan showed his presence as a rebounder and Maurice Spillers did everything including providing leadership.

In addition to Kenneth Walker being named the ESL MVP, the following athletes were named to the ESL All-Tournament Team; Maurice Spillers, Ryan Williams and Lawrence Trend Blackledge. Lawrence was named to the ESL All-Big Man Team. As were two of the newest additions to our family of athletes Phillip Gilbert, and Nick Covington have all also received ESL All-Tournament recognition

July 25, 2008
Behind a game -high 36 points by Ryan Williams, Sevilla Delta Jammers Play2Win beat Team Rotterdam. Justin Taylor played a strong game and provided some spectacular plays that included a vicious blocked shot and a powerful two-handed spike dunk (charging and flying in from behind the 3-point line) following a missed foul shot. Adrian McCullough and Ryan Davis shared playing time running the point guard position and both were solid, providing tough defense as well scoring a number of clutch baskets.  The tri-captains, Kenneth Walker, Maurice Spillers, and Jeff McMillan continued their strong play, as did Shawn Daniels who provided a presence in the paint on both ends of the court.

July 24, 2008
In the ESL league opener, Sevilla Delta Jammers Play2Win beat Team Frankfurt which was led by former LA Lakers and Chicago Bulls center, Travis Knight. The trio of Kenneth Walker , Maurice Spillers , Ryan Williams provided a big portion of the balanced scoring attack. Adrian McCullough provided a spark and knocking down several clutch baskets. Jeff McMillan showed why he has been the rebounding leader of every professional league that he has played in, clearing the rebounds on both ends of the court.

Former Tide Hoops Player Kenny Walker Finding Success in European Basketball

Aug. 19, 2008

TUSCALOOSA - Kenny Walker, a center who helped lead the University of Alabama win the 2002 Southeastern Conference basketball regular season championship, was named the MVP of the Eurobasket Summer League in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Walker finished the 2008 season in the Czech Republic playing for Geofin Novy Jicin, a team that advanced to the Mattoni NBL Finals. Walker, who played at Wolfson High School in Jacksonville, Fla., before playing four years and graduating from the University of Alabama, will return to the Czech Republic to play again this season. He will play in the Mattoni NBL and FIBA Central European Basketball League.

Walker's summer league play was in Salt Lake City and ran concurrently with the NBA's Rocky Mountain Revue. Former Tide player and Birmingham native Emmett Thomas also participated. Walker played for the league champions, Team Sevilla, which was made up of Delta Jammers Play2Win players. Walker had a key block late in the championship game against Team Munich to preserve the win and give the championship to Team Sevilla.

An Academic All-SEC player as well as a four-year starter for the Crimson Tide, he played on back-to-back NCAA tournament teams for Alabama in 2002 and 2003 and helped Alabama advance to the NIT Championship game in 2001, his sophomore season. His senior season Alabama received the school's first No. 1 national ranking, a spot it held for two straight weeks in December of 2002.

Walker has been playing basketball professionally since graduating from Alabama in May 2003. He led his league in Poland in blocked shots in 2007 playing for Polonia and was MVP in the Kosovo Finals, playing for Mabetex Prishtine in 2005 while leading Kosovo to the Super League championship. In 2004 he was All-Swedish league playing in Sallen, Sweden and was selected for and played in the Swedish league's all-star game.

Play2Win Delta Jammers wins unprecedented third consecutive (2005-2006-2007) Championships at the 38th Annual Los Angeles/Southern California Nike Summer Pro League at the Pyramid in Long Beach St.

The Play2Win Delta Jammers participating in its 24th consecutive appearance in the prestigious 38th Los Angeles/Southern California NBA Summer Pro League,(renamed this year for its title sponsor the Los Angeles/Southern California Summer Pro League presented by Nike) successfully defended its championship back-to-back titles by defeating the L Smith Associates team featuring NBA players including Bo Outlaw and Penny Hardaway in the championship game 96-88 on July 15th.

In achieving the unprecedented three consecutive championships, Play2Win Delta Jammers finished with a perfect 7-0 record including an impressive win over the Polish National Team that featured former NBA 1st round draft pick and 2008 Russian Cup MVP, Maciej Lampe. In the championship game led by
Ron Selleaze defense and scoring with 33 points including 5-9 from 3-point range; Kenneth Walker controlling the paint on both ends of the court, posting a near triple-double in the championship game 24 points, 11 rebounds and 8 blocked shots; and Kenny Brunner, whose point guard play helped to lead the way.

Others making a difference were
Damien McSwine, Maurice Spillers,Kevin Bradley, Jaison Williams and Tarron Williams

Maurice Spillers posted a 37 point and 7 rebound performance in the semi-final game helped propel the team into the championship game but it was Kevin Bradley's late game heroics in the semi-finals that included an amazing performance of scoring five consecutive points in the closing seconds of the semi-finals to send the game into overtime (a steal followed by a two-point basket and another steal on the inbound pass and a three-point basket while being fouled) Kevin scored seven points in the final minute of the game. Play2Win Delta Jammers scored the final seven points in regulation (five points by Kevin Bradley and other two by Damien McSwine)  Just as critical was Kenneth Walker's consecutive blocked shots of the opposition on the final possession in regulation.

Streetball vs. the NBA
by Sam Rubinroit

Most basketball players start on the streets or playgrounds, playing pickup games with their friends, calling their own fouls, and making up rules as they go along. Some go on to play organized ball in high school, college and, for a lucky few, the NBA. However, many stick with the less formal pickup game without rules dictating their style, playing solely for the love of basketball.

The Boys of Summer
Gearing up for the new Mixtape Tour with the And 1 crew

for Slam by Matt Caputo

For the hoops-obsessed, basketball season never ends-it only changes. Over the last eight summers, the AND1 mixtape tour has bridged the gap between the NBA playoffs and the season tip-off with science-defying dunks and jaw-dropping dribbling. Because of the tour's coverage on ESPN and past endorsements with Mountain Dew, AND1's roster of national asphalt stars are argubably the most recognizable basketball players outside the NBA. This summer, AND1, the company, and AND1, the team, promise more of the usual tricks, as well as trying some new ones.

"Man, I'm so excited about the tour playing outside again," says Kenny Brunner or "Bad Santa", after the AND1 team's second practice of the year in the gym at Manhattan's Baruch College, " I love the outside atmospherelike in Venice Beach and its a different environment for the fans. You know I dive on the floor, so it's going to be a chance to see who has the heart to take a charge or dive outside."

After several years of playing indoors, AND1 is bringing the tour back out into the open air. The nationwide, 10-city tour kicks  off June 16 in Brooklyn's Coney Island and will run through August 25...

While the 2007 tour will be considerably shorter in the U.S. this year, AND1 has doubled up on the dates outside of the states. As part of the 10-episode reality TV show, the AND1 team will play the weekly schedule and after the broadcast fans will be able to vote online to choose for what player will continue. One baller from each local market will be selected to make up the team that meets the AND1 squad in finale game. Each local player, based on their performance, will be vying for the contract with AND1 and a spot on the tour next year.
