July 26, 2008
DELTA JAMMERS Play2Win, playing as Team
Sevilla in the inaugural Eurobasket Summer League (ESL) in Salt Lake
City, Utah adds another championship to the list of titles won by the
organization by defeating Team Munich in the ESL championship game. The
3-day event held concurrently with the NBA's Rocky Mountain Revue
featured significant contributions by all 10 players chosen to
represent DELTA JAMMERS Play2Win at the Eurobasket event. Among the
original 10 players chosen was Kenny Brunner, Delta Jammers Play2Win
team leader and floor general, who was unable to participate in the ESL
due to a scheduling conflict with the And1 MixTape Tour.
The Championship game was a hard fought game that went down to wire with ESL MVP, Kenneth Walker
(pictured above) sealing the victory and the championship with a huge
blocked shot in the game's final seconds. Providing lots of energy and
making a difference on both ends of the court for the team was Lawrence Trend Blackledge, who came up with numerous blocked and altered shots on defense and some timely baskets. Mike Dale Jr. played good defense and provided some scoring, Shawn Daniels brought his toughness and game savvy making assists, grabbing rebounds and creating court spacing, Jeff McMillan showed his presence as a rebounder and Maurice Spillers did everything including providing leadership.
In addition to Kenneth Walker being named the ESL MVP, the following athletes were named to the ESL All-Tournament Team; Maurice Spillers, Ryan Williams and Lawrence Trend Blackledge. Lawrence was named to the ESL All-Big Man Team. As were five of the newest additions to our family of athletes Phillip Gilbert, Nick Covington, Troy Gwynn, Marcus Saunders and Marlo Saunders have all also received ESL All-Tournament recognition

Behind a game -high 36 points by Ryan Williams, Sevilla Delta Jammers Play2Win beat Team Rotterdam. Justin Taylor
played a strong game and provided some spectacular plays that included
a vicious blocked shot and a powerful two-handed spike dunk (charging
and flying in from behind the 3-point line) following a missed foul
shot. Adrian McCullough and Ryan Davis
shared playing time running the point guard position and both were
solid, providing tough defense as well scoring a number of clutch
baskets. The tri-captains, Kenneth Walker, Maurice Spillers, and Jeff McMillan continued their strong play, as did Shawn Daniels who provided a presence in the paint on both ends of the court.

Sevilla Delta Jammers Play2Win beat Team Frankfurt which was led by
former LA Lakers and Chicago Bulls center, Travis Knight. The trio of
Kenneth Walker , Maurice Spillers and Ryan Williams provided a big portion of the balanced scoring attack. Adrian McCullough provided a spark and knocking down several clutch baskets. Jeff McMillan
showed why he has been the rebounding leader of every professional
league that he has played in, clearing the rebounds on both ends of the
court.

Others making a difference were Damien McSwine, Maurice Spillers, Kevin Bradley, Jaison Williams and Tarron Williams
Maurice Spillers posted a 37 point and 7 rebound performance in the semi-final game helped propel the team into the championship game but it was Kevin Bradley's late game heroics in the semi-finals that included an amazing performance of scoring five consecutive points in the closing seconds of the semi-finals to send the game into overtime (a steal followed by a two-point basket and another steal on the inbound pass and a three-point basket while being fouled) Kevin scored seven points in the final minute of the game. Play2Win Delta Jammers scored the final seven points in regulation (five points by Kevin Bradley and other two by Damien McSwine) Just as critical was Kenneth Walker's consecutive blocked shots of the opposition on the final possession in regulation.

The 36th annual Southern California Summer Pro League wound down today as agent teams Play 2 Win and P. Miller competed in the 7:30 championship game. Both teams had dominated in their semifinal games played earlier in the day, defeating their semifinal opponents 102-91 and 92-82, respectively. In the end Play 2 Win emerged victorious (104-91), from the thirteen days of play, to become the year’s champions. Play 2 Win finished with a perfect record of 8-0. The day began with the Eastern Conference semifinal game featuring Play 2 Win and Pro Sports Now. Play 2 Win out scored Pro Sports Now in every quarter but the last, enabling them to clinch the final victory. Kenny Walker had a stellar game leading his team as well as putting up a double-double for Play 2 Win with 34 points and 11 rebounds. Jimmy Miggins lead Pro Sports Now in scoring with 22, but it was not enough to defeat Walker and the rest of the Play 2 Win team. In the season’s last NBA game, the Memphis Grizzles took on and defeated the Miami Heat, 94-87. Both teams had the support of their management brass as Grizzlies’ GM Jerry West and Heat President Pat Riley looked on from the floor of the Long Beach Pyramid. Hakim Warrick once again lead Memphis in scoring with thirty-three points, while Miami draft pick Wayne Simien lead the Heat in scoring with 26 points. The day’s second playoff game featured P. Miller and A.I.M, with P. Miller taking the victory and the title of Western Conference champions. Brandon Crump led P. Miller in the 92-82 victory with his 18 points. Andre Larry scored 21 points for A.I.M, but it was not enough to move his team into the season’s final game. In other play today Frontline Sports took and defeated Senegal, 87-80. The Southern California Summer Pro League (SPL) concludes its 36th year as the premier summer showcase for basketball's greatest teams and showmen. It is the medium through which NBA teams provide instruction to their first and second round draft picks in a rigorous and competitive environment, while established NBA players maintain and hone their skills. Every NBA team has participated in the SPL throughout its unprecedented history. Not surprisingly, SPL has served as a launching pad for many great NBA careers.
